Join the Sayreville Historical Society and Abigail Adams as we “remember the ladies” who fought to ensure American women’s political participation on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Sayreville Active Adult Center, 423 Main Street.
Carol Simon Levin brings to life the future first lady who famously urged her husband, John Adams, to “remember the ladies” as he and the other Founding Fathers created a new nation in 1776. Reflecting on the failure of Congress to do so, “Abigail Adams” looks to the future and shares the stories of courageous women of all colors and creeds who fought for political rights -- from Dolley Madison, to the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote, and the pioneering female activists and politicians who've worked to extend women's economic, social, and political rights into the 21st century.
The program follows a short, general society meeting at 7:15. The event is open and free to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Sayreville Food Bank.
